The band you could totally be in. Like, tonight

What Is This?

This is a band where all of the instruments and singing parts are up for grabs on each song.

What If I'm Not A Great Musician?

It's all good. The point of this is to be a no-stress way for people to play music. We try to find songs that have a mix of complex and simple parts. That way there's something for everyone.

We only ask a few things.
1) Actually try to learn your parts. Don't be the cocky dude who tries to skate by because they're really good at guitar. Many people don't have a lot of band experience, so they rely on other people to know when to switch parts. Genuine mistakes are part of the fun - not knowing the song because you didn't really try to learn it makes you a douche bag who doesn't value other people's time or happiness.

2) Make sure you have a legit chance of playing it somewhat ok. Part of the fun is people trying things they wouldn't normally do. That said, don't sign up for harmonies if you don't know what a harmony is. Or don't sign up for drums if you don't have a drum set and have never played before. We're not saying you have to hit every note of a solo, but you should at least be able to spell "guitar".

3) Do NOT bring your own instruments. We have a lot of moving parts during the evening. We don't need 25 guitars and 4 basses. We realize that every instrument feels different and, quite frankly, we weren't swayed by that argument. We're happy to let people know any make or model of an instrument so that you can buy a practice one from home, but we don't care how cool your stickers on your guitar are. Leave it home.

How Does It Work?

Before each show, anyone who has played with us before gets to have a say in what we play. We take your suggestions, then use them to create the perfect setlist.

Once the setlist has been made, you can sign up for parts through this very website. Maybe you want to sing on Nirvana, play the bass on Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Keyboard on Ke$ha. Just sign up before anyone else and you're in.

How Do I Play?

If you're reading this at an actual show, start by taking a look at our setlist for tonight. Let us know if there are any parts you'd like. We'll see who's currently signed up, and if they'd be willing to donate their part to you. It may not always work out, but it never hurts to try.

If you're planning ahead for the next show, start by emailing us (messageYFB@gmail.com). Let us know what you're all about (what you play, what music you like, song suggestions, etc.) and we'll try to work in a few songs specifically for you.

Just a heads up that we're very skeptical of new musicians. You're gonna have to show us that you're a reliable player before we let you get crazy with song suggestions. As you play more and more, you can unlock new badges. Along with those badges comes more leeway (the ability to sign up for more songs, suggest new songs, things like that). Long story short, the cooler you are, the cooler you'll be.
